Melanie Roberts

Principal Physio

Melanie is the Principal physiotherapist with over 25 years physiotherapy experience in private practice. Melanie started Gold Coast Sports & Spinal Physio in February 2003. She graduated from the University of South Australia in 1996 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Physiotherapy and completed a Masters in Sports Physiotherapy in 2002. She began her career working in private practice as well as in hospitals before working over in the UK . Following this she worked for three years in a private practice/private hospital before heading off to work in the USA. Since returning she has worked in private practice, mainly in the area of sports physiotherapy. Since 2007 Melanie has become an “APA Sports Physiotherapist”, a specialist title awarded by the Australian Physiotherapy Association. She has previous experience with various sporting teams including freestyle snow skiing with the ‘Australian Ski Team’ as well as Australian Rules, Rugby Union and League and Motor Racing both nationally and internationally. Her main areas of interest are with sports related problems, lower limb biomechanics, hip and pelvic tendinopathies as well as neck/back pain and headaches. Melanie loves treating those patients who have been “everywhere” and not found a solution to their pain and dysfunction – “the more complicated the better”. She has completed the Watson Headache® Institute (run by founder Dean Watson - www.watsonheadache.com) – Level 1, Level 2 and finally Level 3 to be a Watson Headache® Certified Practitioner, for migraine and headache treatments. She has also completed Level 1 DMA Pilates course for “core stability” training, as well as various other post-grad courses including Sports Physio Level 1 and 2, dry needling Level 1 with CPD and Level 1, Level 2 (advanced – spine and thoracic region) and Level 3 (advanced – TMJ, hands/feet) with GEMt. Melanie has also completed courses in ”Safe and Effective Cervical Manipulation”, hip and pelvic stabilisaton and treating hip and pelvic tendinopathies to name a few. Melanie is an extremely passionate physiotherapist who prides herself in achieving excellent results. Melanie is a member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association and the Sports Physiotherapy Group as a Titled Member. Melanie is a preferred provider for Medibank Private, BUPA, NIB and participates in the “More for Muscles” program with HCF. Melanie has also opened a sister clinic Gold Coast Headache Clinic. When not working, Melanie loves spending time with her family, including her two young boys.

Mathew O'Brien

Senior Physio

Mathew joined Gold Coast Sports & Spinal Physio having moved up from Sydney in 2018. He completed his physiotherapy studies from the Australian Catholic University in Sydney in 2016. Mathew has excellent biomechanical knowledge and manual handling skills and has a background in exercise rehab and Pilates reformer classes to improve overall strength and conditioning. He takes a hands on approach to all treatment and likes to equip his patients with the knowledge and skills to ensure their problems do not reoccur. He enjoys treating a wide variety of injuries and everyday aches and pains from lower back and neck pain to dodgy knees and shoulders Mathew has been heavily involved with soccer teams at a representative level and also working with National Premier League teams such as Manly FC and the Northern Tigers as well as involvement with Rugby Union club teams. Mathew has a keen interest in implementing preventative measures to ensure athletes of any level or age have the best possible chance to avoid injury in the first place. He has shown this with is low injury rate as head physio for the Manly FC's Women's division side. Mathew has completed post graduate courses in dry needling through the APA and GEMt level 1, Level 2 (advanced – spine and thoracic region) and Level 3 (advanced – TMJ, hands/feet) as well as completing his Sports Physio Level 1. Carol Falconi Kriebel

Senior Physio

Carol graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2015 and following her graduation she completed her specialisation in orthopedics and traumatology in 2018.

She has spent her careers working in a variety of settings mainly in private practice and. She was involved in the physiotherapy team at the Brazilian Air Force Hospital and was also the Head of Orthopedics and Musculoskeletal physio at a prestigious private hospital in Sao Paulo. Carol has extensive experience in all areas of musculoskeletal physiotherapy in private practice and has treated many professional and amateur athletes in a variety of sports. 

In the last three years before moving to Australia Carol was running a successful musculoskeletal private practice providing high quality services to patients of all ages and backgrounds. She has a passion for helping people achieve their goals in a holistic manner. Carol in continually improving her professional skills and has completed post graduate courses in manual therapy, dry needling, running analysis and chronic pain management. Carol is a preferred provider for Medibank Private, BUPA and NIB.

In her spare time Carol likes camping, exploring new places and spending time with her dog at the beach.

Devon Edmunds

Physio

Devon joined Gold Coast Sports & Spinal Physio in 2023 having relocated from Canada in 2019. He completed his undergraduate at the University of Alberta before attending The University of Queensland for his Master’s in Physiotherapy Studies.

Since graduating he has worked exclusively in private practice and has attained certification as an ASCA Level 1 Strength & Conditioning coach. He has also completed additional training in the assessment and treatment of dizzy patients (Vertigo). While Devon has a vast experience with a wide variety of conditions, he has a special interest in low back pain, neck pain and sports injuries. Devon’s approach combines hands on therapy, soft tissue massage, therapeutic dry needling and exercise for long term rehabilitation tailored to each patient. Devon is a preferred provider for Medibank Private, BUPA, NIB and participates in the HCF 'More for Muscles' program. 

During his downtime Devon enjoys competing in strongman, playing rugby league and getting away camping.

Abby Menzies

Physio

Abby recently joined the Gold Coast Sports & Spinal Physio team in 2024. Originally from Canada, she earned her Bachelor of Kinesiology and Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta.

Since graduating, Abby has worked exclusively in private practice settings. In Canada she acquired certifications in biomedical dry needling, including training for areas such as the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, temporomandibular region, hands, feet and other various parts of the body. Additionally, she obtained certifications in cervical and thoracic spine manipulation and has undergone additional comprehensive manual therapy training. Abby has also pursued various forms of education in powerlifting and strength training. 

In her career Abby has worked with a diverse range of patients including professional hockey players, elite athletes, weekend warriors and the general population. Additionally at the University of Alberta she assisted in training students in manual therapy techniques.

Abby's treatment style involves a holistic evaluation and assessment, ensuring personalised care for each patient. She employs a hands-on approach utilising techniques such as joint mobilisations and/or manipulations, dry needling, soft tissue release and exercise prescription. She enjoys addressing various issues including neck and back pain, tendinopathies and acute or longstanding injuries. Her expertise in biomechanics and strength training enhances her ability to support athletes and individuals aiming for peak performance. Abby is a preferred provider for Medibank Private, BUPA, NIB and participates in the HCF 'more for muscles' program. 

In her spare time, Abby maintains an active lifestyle often found at the gym, hiking trails or enjoying a good book on the beach. Her dedication to personal wellness reflects her commitment to empowering her patients to achieve optimal health and functionality. 

Daniel Swainston

Remedial Massage Therapist

Daniel joined Gold Coast Sports & Spinal Physio in 2023 with over 12 years experience and holds a Diploma of Remedial Massage as well as being a certified 'Fascial Fitness' instructor trained by the well renowned Robert Schleip PhD. 

Daniel has a variety of experience including working with professional sporting teams such as the Sydney Kings Basketball team and the Penrith Panthers NRL team assisting them in achieving optimal performance for their athletes. He currently works alongside physiotherapists, podiatrists, nutritionists, occupational therapists and exercise physiologists to holistically improve his patient's lifestyles by facilitating the body's natural healing process. 

Daniel enjoys life on the beach, going to the gym and creating delicious meals. He believes that massage should be a part of every individual's lifestyle in order to promote postural balance, healing and full flexibility.

Hollie Morse

Remedial Massage Therapist

Hollie joined Gold Coast Sports & Spinal Physio in 2022 with over 10 years experience as a Remedial and Sports Therapist. She has worked with a wide variety of clients over the years from professional athletes in Rugby League, Swimming, Triathlon, Cyclist, Marathons, Soccer, Touch Football, AFL as well as the local weekend warrior. Hollie also is passionate about teaching young aspiring athletes the importance of learning health maintenance and how to prevent injuries, teaching young kids how to perform at their best level whilst implementing stretching techniques and also enhancing their performance through massage.

Hollie is also skilled in lymphatic drainage, pregnancy and hot stone massage in addition to therapeutic, remedial and sports massage.

Hollie loves a challenge, enjoys meeting and connecting with new people and is free spirited and passionate about helping her clients achieve pain free mobility and fantastic health. A few philosophies Hollie lives by are;
no pain no gain (within reason!), live today like it is your last and
treat your body with respect and love yourself first.
